Reporting against National Standards

As you have heard in the News these days, it is now our job to report to you about your child's progress towards the National Standards in Reading, Writing and Maths. You will have had a copy of the report format with some very useful information. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to come and talk to me about them. So far I have reported to at least half of you as your child has just recently had their first year anniversary at school. It was hugely exciting to see the amazing learning they had all undertaken. I am currently in the process of testing the other half of the class being those who are working towards their 2 year anniversary. A note will be coming home soon asking you to come and make a time for Week 10 for this report.

Colour Mixing

We have been learning lots about primary and secondary colours.  Watch this space for photos of our fabulous art work - self portraits using chalk, pastel and dye.  We used a variety of WARM and COOL colours.  For our backgrounds we had to "tint" red or blue with white to make lighter colours, based on Picasso's blue or rose period paintings.

Our Big Question - What Happen When We Change Light?

As part of our unpacking and learning around our big inquiry question we blew bubbles!  We used our white hat to share our prior knowledge and most of us have an idea that the sun gives light and that a rainbow happens when it has been raining.  We know that there are 7 colours in the rainbow and it was very exciting to see all those colours in our bubbles.  We write acrostic poems about our bubbles, using adjectives to describe them and tried to use lots of detail to interest our readers.

Here are a couple of examples, you can view the rest under our writing pages.  ENJOY!!

Our Success-O-Meter!

The children will be using the wireless keyboard and mouse to reflect on their learning within reading, writing, maths, thinking and lots of other areas using our success-o-meter. The children came up with the words to indicate the level of persisting and excellence they will put themselves at! It was rather interesting as we brainstormed our ideas for which words we could use however I am fine with what they came up with! It is very relevant to them as individuals and already they are talking the language and no-one wants to be at the bottom of the meter. It is great to hear them talking about what they are doing and what they need to "do" to get an okay or AB FAB! They are amazing learners for 6 year olds.

Learning to Persist! Work as a Team!

Rooms 16,17,20 and 21 are learning to develop the "habit of mind" PERSISTING. We are going to have a developmental morning every second Friday where we are in groups of 4-6 children. We will rotate through a series of activities and challenges to help us in our persisting. Here are some photos of some of these activities. Get the children to explain to you what they had to do.
